Watch Competition Site Case Study

The Vintage Watch Draw approached Developer Rocket with a distinctive idea: to create the UK’s first competition platform dedicated to collector-grade vintage watches.

About the Vintage Watch Draw

This wasnt going to be your typical competition website, the website needed to reflect the quality of the watch that was being given away. We needed to provide a straightforward, low friction platform that made users trust the website.

We designed a completely custom competition website for them based on the design of the businesses online platform selling vintage watches.

The Vintage Watch Draw gives customers the opportunity to win rare and desirable vintage watches, including collector-grade Rolex models.

Each watch is personally selected by vintage watch specialist Alex Stevens for its condition, originality and collectability. Every prize is authenticated, serviced and supplied with a 12-month mechanical warranty.

Unlike competition websites offering a broad mix of prizes, The Vintage Watch Draw focuses exclusively on carefully selected vintage watches. This clear niche helped shape every part of the website, from its visual identity to the way individual competitions are presented.

Technology used for this Competition Website

We used a number of different technologies to make this competiiton site. WordPress is the CMS, it runs the complex backend allowing the admins to make edits to the site, view stats and many other things. WooCommerce is the ecommerce functionality within WordPress.

Figma is the design tool that we used to create the initial designs. Our team at Developer Rocket also worked with a lot of custom code in order to achieve the unique functionality to required to run this site

The Goal

The client needed a premium competition website that would appeal to both experienced watch collectors and people entering their first online competition.
The main challenge was finding the right balance between a sophisticated vintage-watch website and a modern competition platform.

Competition Website Development

We developed the website using WordPress and WooCommerce, creating a flexible foundation that can support the business as it grows.

The competition system allows customers to:

Behind the scenes, the client has a familiar WordPress management system for creating competitions, processing orders, reviewing entries and updating website content.

Building Customer Trust

Trust is especially important when customers are entering competitions for high-value prizes. We therefore made transparency a central part of the website.

The platform clearly explains that every watch is inspected and authenticated by an experienced specialist. Watches are also serviced by a watchmaker and supplied with a 12-month mechanical warranty.

Maximum ticket numbers, remaining entries, ticket prices and draw dates are all displayed prominently. Draws are guaranteed to take place on the stated date, even when every available ticket has not been sold.

Dedicated About, FAQs and Winners pages provide further information about the people behind the business, how watches are selected and how winners are chosen.

Designed for Mobile Competition Entries

A significant proportion of competition website traffic comes from social media and mobile advertising. The entire website was therefore designed to provide a smooth experience on smaller screens.

We carefully considered the size and position of important elements such as:
Customers can discover a competition, review the watch and complete their entry without needing to move to a desktop computer.

The Finished Website

The completed website gives The Vintage Watch Draw a distinctive and professional platform from which to introduce its specialist competition concept.

It combines the character of a premium vintage watch business with the speed and functionality expected from a modern competition website. The client can now showcase each watch properly, accept online entries and manage new draws through one flexible system.

Most importantly, the website communicates what makes the business different: carefully curated vintage watches, professional expertise, transparent odds and guaranteed draws.
