It’s the new year, which is the perfect opportunity to refresh your branding. So many businesses take the beginning of the year to review their business, find out what’s working and what’s not. As well as what trends will appear in months to come. I have been analyzing designs from other companies in order to apply these trends to my clients. I am going to share some of them with you, so that you can decide whether your branding is up to scratch for 2020!
Neon, Warm-Toned Gradients:
Gradients have been used in branding for years. It’s been extremely popular to use a gradient in logo’s, especially if you want that futuristic, modern look. However there has been a huge increase in warm-tones gradients recently. Firefox have been creating more than one logo for their business, which all follow this trend. There are also extremely popular business that have used this gradient for a while. Such as Instagram and Tinder. You could say they are ahead of the branding game!
Independent Hand-Written Typography
One of my favourite design trends for this year is the Hand-written Typography. This has always been a design type that I adore. Recently I have seen a lot of typography designs taking a turn. The use of different shapes and tracking is a real game changer. People are no longer using the typical rules of typography and want their designs to be more free. Which is a great way to express your business.
Line Art
Another design that has stood out to me a lot, which I have also been incorporating with clients, is line art. The clean, white space look seems to be extremely popular last year through to this year. This is a great way to keep a logo looking simple, yet abstract and fun. I find that they work great with, but in no way limited to, beauty and accessory brands.
If you’re wanting a professional, hand-made and friendly approach to your brand, this is probably a great route to go down.
Unusual Fonts
Typically, when creating branding for your business, one of the first things that is thought of is that you want your logo and message to be clear. An easy to read logo has always taken a top spot in the branding priority list. But recently, and much more into 2020, there has been a huge wave of unusual fonts taking over the industry.
Mixing bold and light fonts into one is something to look out for. A logo that challenges your mind to work out its message is a common thing to look out for.
Geometric Lettering
This then leads me onto Geometric Lettering. Why use simple text when you can put shapes in their place? This is a tricky design as, if not done properly, it can be difficult to read. However there are some amazing logo’s appearing with the use of geometric lettering and they are truly striking!
Simplified Designs
The minimalistic approach is back in style. A lot of huge companies have been simplifying their logos over the years. You may not have even noticed. Not only is this because the clean, simplistic look is popular, but because it is a lot easier to apply this design across all platforms. This is something to consider when you’re looking to brand your business.
MUSTARD! IT’S EVERYWHERE!
Not only are particular styles making a statement in 2020, but certain colours are too. Have you noticed recently the huge use of the colour Mustard? Not only in companies branding, but also in products. This colour helps to provide a sense of warmth to your branding. It is also a great replacement for gold foiling.
Hand Drawn Style
Rather than always making a logo look neat, tidy and perfect. The hand-drawn, “imperfect” style is a great way to represent creativity within the company. Commonly used in clothing designs, this style has been around for a while, but we are sure to see a rise in popularity this year.
What’s your favourite design trend? If you own a company, remember to take a look at your branding and look at the different styles that are popular. Could you be implementing this into your branding?
